Big, bright, bulky and beautiful, this breed belies its size; they are warm, soft, gentle and very easy going. They have a very good tolerance for children, but because of their massive size are better in a home with older children. They are very much a companion breed, and will want to be around their family all the time. This breed definitely needs a home with a garden.
Eager to please, the smart St Bernard is one of the easier breeds to train. A little on the lazy side, they need encouragement to exercise, but only require about 1 hour of walking and play per day. They need a regular good brushing, and ideally a bath no less often than every 8 weeks. A typical lifespan is 8-11 years.
